Destin Restaurant Review

La Famiglia Ristorante Italiano & Pizza
300 Harbor Blvd., East
Destin, FL
Phone: 850.424.5795

10:00 a.m - 10:00 p.m.

I'm almost reluctant to share this restaurant, but no matter how much we would like to keep this authentic Italian restaurant a secret word is rapidly getting out. La Famiglia is a family affair and it shows. Stefania & Pino and their three daughters Michela, Francesca & Valentina are from Roma. They have been open only three months & are already quite successful.

Jim & I wanted to try it out & the minute we walked in we were greeted by the delicious aromas typically associated with good Italian food. I was practically swooning by the time we were seated. If we hadn't been ravenous when we walked in, we would be now. The interior is quaint, rustic, & very cozy. The place was packed! Fortunately for us there was one open table available & we quickly claimed it. Even though they were busy, we were served water & presented with menus immediately. We were impressed with the extensive menu & wine list. I ordered the house wine just to check it out & was not disappointed.

We were served our beverages & plenty of hot, fresh bread with an herbed dipping sauce right away & devoured every crumb before our entree arrived. Jim ordered spaghetti & meat balls in tomato sauce & I opted for the veal piccata. The lemony veal piccata was like 'butta', but the star of the show was Jim's spaghetti with authentic, homemade tomato sauce which we both attacked. I wanted to try the Tiramisu, but couldn't take another forkfull of food.
When the check arrived we were pleasantly surprised! Not your typical Destin dinner prices!

This is where the locals dine, but the tourists are sure to find it.
It won't be long before customers are standing in line to eat here.

Sshhhh! Don't tell anyone!

Watch for my next restaurant review.

We still have our January specials at Ariel Dunes resort for $100/night!

Christmas comes to Destin!

Christmas at Destin Commons
The holiday season kicks off as Santa arrives at Destin Commons at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 — not on his sleigh, but on a fire truck accompanied by a police escort into Center Plaza.
Professional Broadway actors decked out in holiday costumes as Snow White, Cinderella, Peter Pan and Aladdin, present “Dreams Come True: A Fairy Tale Christmas,” a song and dance show. The show ends with Santa magically lighting the 50-foot Christmas tree.
Once again, the holiday décor at Destin Commons reflects a Norman Rockwell theme throughout. The Rockwell exhibit is in front of the center between Panera Bread and Talbots.
America’s favorite artist, Norman Rockwell is well-known for his American Christmas tradition with his nostalgic art on the covers of “The Saturday Evening Post” magazines from the 1920’s to the 1960’s.
Santa will take up residence in his Santa Station by the exhibit and children are welcome to visit and have professional photos taken.
Station hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and Dec. 14-18; 3 to 7 p.m. Sundays, 1 to 8 p.m. Dec. 19 and 21-23; 1 to 6 p.m. Dec. 20 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 24.
Holiday Nights and Lights shows will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Center Plaza. Participating will be:
Dec. 3: The Village Choir
Dec. 8: NWF State College Soundsations Show Choir
Dec. 10: Dance Elite
Dec. 15: Pyramid Players Group
Dec. 17: Northwest Florida Youth Chorus

AUTUMN IS AWESOME at the beach in Destin, Florida

Our sugar white beaches and emerald green waters are the primary tourist attraction, but many visitors come to Destin for fishing and boating.

Known as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village", the largest and most elaborately equipped fishing fleet in the State of Florida docks at the Destin Harbor.

Take a look at all our vacation rental units at www.barefootbytheseaindestin.com or email us at jeanne001@cox.net.
Give us a call at 850.543.9239 for rates and availability.

The Destin Fishing Rodeo is the ultimate fishing tournament for saltwater anglers of all ages. The tournament continues from October 1st through October 31st. The Rodeo is free to angler's fishing aboard a registered boat in the Rodeo & is open to private and charter boats. Weigh-ins are everyday on the docks at A.J.'s Seafood & Oyster Bar from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

There is free entry for Pier, Bridge, Jetty & Surf Fishing. Over 30,000 fishermen compete throughout the month of October with over $100,000 awarded in cash and prizes. There are daily, weekly and overall prizes with divisions in Junior, Teen, Ladies and Seniors. Virtually every gamefish is recognized with awards during the Rodeo. Whether you're trolling inshore for King Mackerel, offshore for Marlin and Sailfish, or fishing the deep bottoms for Red Snapper and Grouper, you'll be in the running for prizes.

The City of Destin has a rich historical heritage dating back to American Indian inhabitants as early as the 7th century A.D. Spanish explorers surveyed Florida in 1538. Don Francisco Tapia was commissioned to survey the Florida coast and in 1693, drew the first known map of East Pass and its shores.

Destin traces its immediate history to a fisherman, Captain Leonard Destin, who moved here from New London, Connecticut, and settled in Northwest Florida in about 1845. Captain Destin pioneered the fishing industry and Destin has maintained this heritage to the present.

The City of Destin was originally chartered as a municipality under the laws of the State of Florida in 1984. However, the community of Destin, in existence for more than one hundred and fifty years, has a long history as a fishing village and premier resort destination.

In addition to fishing, recreational opportunities include golf, tennis and watersports, including diving and snorkeling. The 100 Fathom curve draws closer to Destin than any other spot in Florida providing the speediest deep-water access on the Gulf.
